A recycling company in Santiago, Chile, has installed an ENERPAT AMB-H1510-160 Hopper-Type Scrap Metal Baler to compress aluminum cans into dense bales. The customer’s goal was to cut freight costs by shipping more material per load, and it chose ENERPAT for the machine’s technical specifications and the after-sales support behind it.
· Location: Santiago, Chile
· Industry: Recycling
· Material: Aluminum cans
· Equipment: ENERPAT AMB-H1510-160 Hopper-Type Scrap Metal Baler
· Application: Baling aluminum cans into dense bales to reduce freight costs
The customer is an industrial recycling company based in Santiago, Chile. It collects and processes scrap materials for resale, and aluminum cans are one of the materials it handles. As with most recyclers, its margins depend on how efficiently material can be stored, loaded and shipped to buyers.
Aluminum cans are light and take up a great deal of space. Loose or poorly compacted, they fill a truck by volume long before they reach its weight limit, which means paying to move a lot of air. The customer wanted to bale its aluminum cans so that each shipment carried more material and freight costs came down.
Because the baler would sit at the center of this process, the customer paid close attention to the details. It needed a machine with the right technical parameters for aluminum cans, and a supplier it could rely on for support after the sale.
ENERPAT AMB-H1510-160 Hopper-Type Scrap Metal Baler. It has a 160-ton press force, a 1500 × 1000 mm compression chamber and two 22 kW motors. It runs in fully automatic mode and produces bales of 350 × 350 mm.
The decision came down to two factors: the machine’s technical parameters and ENERPAT’s after-sales service.
Technical fit. The AMB-H series is designed for lightweight scrap such as aluminum cans, foil, chips and other non-ferrous material. The AMB-H1510-160 combines a large chamber with 160 tons of press force, which compresses loose cans into dense, uniform 350 × 350 mm bales. Cold pressing forms bales without binders, so the metal’s properties are unchanged, and dense bales mean more weight per truckload. Other design features include:
· Continuous hopper feeding: A guarded side platen lets material drop into the hopper while the ram is pressing, so loading never has to stop between cycles. This suits high-volume, lightweight material like cans.
· Durable construction: The chamber is lined with HRC55 wear-resistant plate, and the frame is a mortise-and-tenon welded structure for high load capacity and long service life.
· Reliable hydraulics: The system uses a cartridge-type valve group for fast cycles, H-type tapered pipe fittings that tighten themselves under vibration and resist leaks, and a one-piece integrated cylinder with chrome-plated piston rods.
· Continuous operation: An industrial chiller runs around the clock and keeps oil temperature under control, supporting multi-shift use.
· Clean bale shape: Shear blades on the ram and a dovetail counter-blade on the frame cut long or awkward pieces during compression.
· Simple, safe control: A Siemens or Schneider PLC with a touchscreen monitors cycle time, current and oil temperature, and the CE-certified safety system includes an emergency stop, overload protection and a lockable maintenance mode.
After-sales support. ENERPAT provides free material testing and design support before the order, and a global service network for technical help afterward. The machine carries a 1-year warranty, and the hydraulic cylinder is covered for 5 years.
The AMB-H1510-160 processes aluminum cans. The AMB-H series also handles aluminum foil, lightweight aluminum profiles, thin iron and steel sheet, scrap copper, metal chips and shavings, and mixed non-ferrous scrap, so the customer has room to bale other materials as its business develops.
The AMB-H1510-160 is now installed in Santiago and compresses aluminum cans into dense, uniform 350 × 350 mm bales. Material that once took up a great deal of space for little weight is now compact and easy to stack, store and load. That means each shipment can carry more aluminum, which is the freight saving the customer set out to achieve.
Automatic operation and continuous hopper feeding also keep the baling process simple for the operating team, and the customer has an experienced supplier to turn to for support.
ENERPAT’s AMB-H series offers press forces from 100 to 500 tons and motor power from 30 to 185 kW, with models for aluminum cans and many other lightweight metals. We test customer-supplied samples free of charge before you order. Send us your material and daily volume, and we will confirm the right model.
