A machining company in New Jersey has installed an ENERPAT BM-1090 Metal Chip Briquetter to press its copper chips into dense briquettes. The machine was available from stock, so the customer could start turning a daily by-product into a more valuable material for recyclers without a long wait.
· Location: Newark, New Jersey, USA
· Industry: Machining
· Material: Copper chips
· Equipment: ENERPAT BM-1090 Metal Chip Briquetter (Single Output)
· Application: Pressing copper machining chips into briquettes for sale to recyclers
The customer is a machining company in New Jersey. Cutting and turning metal parts produces a steady flow of chips, and copper chips are one of the by-products it needs to manage every day. Rather than treat them as simple waste, the company wanted to get the most value out of the material by preparing it properly for resale.
Copper chips are a valuable material, but loose chips are bulky, awkward to store and handle, and generally worth less to recyclers than a compact, dense form. The customer wanted to press the chips into briquettes before selling them, because briquettes would let it earn a higher return on the same material.
The customer’s volume is modest but steady. It produces about two 40-gallon drums of copper chips per day, so the briquetter had to handle this output reliably and fit into a working machine shop. The customer also wanted equipment it could get quickly, which made stock availability an important factor.
ENERPAT BM-1090 Metal Chip Briquetter (Single Output). It has a 100-ton press force and an 11 kW motor, runs at a system pressure of 25 MPa, and produces briquettes 90 mm in diameter. It operates in fully automatic mode.
The customer chose the BM-1090 because it was in stock and ready to ship. Availability was a deciding factor, since a machine on the shelf meant the customer could begin briquetting almost immediately.
The BM series is also well suited to copper chips. It compresses iron, aluminum, stainless steel, copper and titanium chips into compact, leak-proof pellets, and several design features help in a working machine shop:
· Reliable feeding: Vertical and horizontal augers work together to force chips smoothly into the compression chamber. The horizontal auger is designed to prevent bridging, so material keeps flowing.
· Fluid separation: The unique design prevents leakage and achieves about 95% oil separation, which reduces cutting-fluid contamination and keeps the workshop cleaner. The result is a drier briquette that is easier to store and handle.
· Durable pressing mold: The high-hardness, high-density mold cavity resists wear and presses briquettes uniformly and firmly. The briquette size can be adjusted to suit different needs.
· Strong hydraulics: The one-piece hydraulic cylinder carries a 5-year warranty, and the system uses Rexroth, Parker and other brand components for durable, leak-resistant operation.
· Continuous operation: An industrial refrigeration unit keeps oil temperature under control and supports automated operation across multiple shifts.
· Simple control: A Siemens or Schneider PLC with real-time monitoring, one-button operation and automatic alarms keeps day-to-day use straightforward.
· Certified and supported: The BM series is CE and ISO certified, and it is backed by a 1-year machine warranty, a 5-year cylinder warranty, and ENERPAT’s U.S. warehouse and service support.
The BM-1090 processes copper chips from the customer’s machining operations, at about two 40-gallon drums per day.
The same machine also handles iron, aluminum, stainless steel and titanium chips, so the customer has room to briquette other materials if its work changes.
The BM-1090 is now installed at the customer’s site in Newark, New Jersey. Copper chips that were once loose and bulky are pressed into dense, uniform briquettes, ready to be sold to recyclers. By briquetting the chips before sale, the customer is positioned to earn a better return on a material it produces every day.
Fluid separation also helps keep the work area cleaner and the briquettes easier to handle. And because the machine came from stock, the customer went from decision to installation quickly.
ENERPAT’s BM series offers models with press forces from 100 to 200 tons for iron, aluminum, copper, stainless steel and other metal chips. We offer free material testing and after-sales support. Send us your material and daily volume, and we will recommend the right machine.
